Leeds United‘s transfer chiefs have pinpointed physicality as key to the club’s recruitment this summer, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
After earning promotion back to the top-flight, the Whites have a crucial summer up ahead as they look to equip their squad for the challenge that lies ahead.
The preliminary efforts have already been made with the signing of Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer following his exit from Wolfsburg.
However, that is only going to be a start with other shortlists being prepared as well.
There are two other transfer moves that are being worked on as well – one for Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra and the other for Udinese’s Jaka Bijol.
Bijol could be moving much closer as he entourage are expected in England soon.

The club’s transfer chiefs also have certain requirements when it comes to potential targets.
A decision has been taken to prioritise physicality, as has been seen with the likes of Bijol and Diarra.
| Season | Position |
|---|---|
| 2024–25 | 1st (Championship, promoted) |
| 2023–24 | 3rd (Championship, play-off runners-up) |
| 2022–23 | 19th (Premier League, relegated) |
| 2021–22 | 17th (Premier League) |
| 2020–21 | 9th (Premier League) |
Their current shortlist consists of five to ten players for each position, among whom one or two will be made priorities.
The Whites have already been told ‘no’ by multiple players this summer due to their status as a newly-promoted Premier League team.

The Whites have refused to persist with them, quickly moving on to other targets.
The entire club is moving in the direction of giving Daniel Farke the best possible team to survive the Premier League challenge.
The scale of that challenge is clear, with all three newly promoted sides last season dropping straight back down to the Championship.
Whether signing physical players can help Leeds to compete better than they did is very much open to question.
It also remains to be seen how the new arrivals fit into Farke’s style, with the German having a clear philosophy and idea about how he wants to play.
That even led to talk Leeds could replace him given how poorly he did in the top flight when Norwich City boss, but the Whites are sticking with Farke.
